From the
rugby club turn right out of the car park and go to the roundabout at
the top of the road. Turn left at the roundabout and then follow the
road back into Shrewsbury following signs to Bayston Hill, Church
Stretton and Ludlow. When you get to Bayleys island make sure you turn
left onto the a49.
The a49
goes all the way to Ludlow. Once you get to Ludlow there are two options
available to you:
1. Take the
slip road into ludlow and follow the road towards the centre of the town
as you approach the centre you go up quite a steep hill with traffic
lights at the top. Go straight on at the lights and down the other side
of the hell. The road then bends right, runs along the side or the river
for a short distance and comes to another set of traffic lights. At
these lights turn left and go over the bridge across the river travel
along this road for some little while you are heading out of Ludlow. On
the right is a turning by a small round house which is signposted
Richards castle. Take this road and it will take you all the way to
Mortimers cross. It is probably about l0 miles or so to Mortimers cross
and the road bends a lot but just stick with it.
2. Take the
Ludlow bypass and head towards Leominster ie stay on the a49. Once past
Ludlow you come to a large junction with a turning on the left to
tenbury wells. This turning is opposite a pub. Do not go to Tenbury
Wells. Turn right, a much smaller turn to Comberton and Orleton on the
b4362. Once you get to Orleton you come to a crossroads. Turn left onto
the b4361. This is the road that will take you all the way to Mortimers
cross. It is a bit bendy but just stick with it.
Nb
for both routes - as you approach the village of Luston there is a very
sharp right hand bend. Stay on the road do not turn off for Luston
Once you
get to Mortimers cross the road comes to a staggered cross roads. Turn
left and the rugby club is about a mile down that road towards Hereford
on the a4110 on the right hand side. There is a car park.
